Decay is a playlist created as an abstract exploration of seasonal depression, and the need for love that blossoms in trying periods. The complexities of the weathers effect on human psychology, particularly my own, drives the message of this playlist, but its romantic undertones is great for the yearners.

HIGHLIGHTS

POOL (STRIPPED) - SAMIA: The stripped rendition of Samia’s lead track from her 2020 album The Baby was the song that inspired this playlists theme. When I discovered this song, and Samia herself, I was absolutely moved by this songs depth and storytelling. Taking place in the three acts, each more lyrically and sonically devistating than the last, it serves as a perfect opener to establish the vibe of this playlist.

DEARLY MISSED - SEAROWS:

PUNISH - ETHEL CAIN: Punish found me on Perverts January release, in a time where I was in a deep funk from the cold winter weather. It is the epitome of the right song finding you in the right time, not to mention its dark and depressing theme. This song navigates the rough, destructive, ruminative thoughts that can control a depressive episode, culminating into fuzzy dark-wave synths and guitars repeating one line “I am punished by love.”
